Crunching the numbers: Who has the most 'home-grown' players?

SPOTLIGHT: As the epigram states: 'There are lies, damned lies, and statistics'.

The phrase was popularized by American writer Mark Twain, who attributed it to the British prime minister Benjamin Disraeli.

With that in mind, we decided to 'crunch the numbers' and see which country in World Cup 2023 has the most home-grown players and who the least.

It appears only South Africa and the three South American teams consist of 100 percent homegrown teams.

Samoa's population is only 160,000.

However, a huge number of Samoans also play for New Zealand, Australia, England, France, Ireland, Italy and even Japan.

Significantly, they are the country with the least number of home-grown players.
