Player ratings: Outsmarted

They were handed a lesson at the breakdowns, while they also could not find a way past a stubborn Australian defence. Their own defence was poor, allowing Australia to score four tries.

Warren Fortune rates the Argentinian players!

15 Joaquin Tuculet

He put his team under pressure on a number of occasions by opting to run the ball deep in his half instead of kicking in the first half. His cover defending was also founding wanting a few times. However, he was a different player in the second half as with a few great runs.

6/10

14 Santiago Cordero

Probably the most dangerous Argentinian player with ball in hand. He beat a number of Aussie defenders with his pace and guile and he is just an awesome player to watch. He racked up a 100 running metres going forward and also beat six defenders.

7/10

13 Marcelo Bosch

Gave a good account of himself on attack and looked for work in the physical exchanges and the breakdowns. However he missed some crucial tackles on defence.

5/10

12 Juan Martin Hernández

The Wallabies shut him down on attack with a rush defence on a number of occasions and he was unable to assert himself on the game like he normally does.

4/10

11 Juan Imhoff

Unfortunately he got injured early in the first half. He was well marked by the Aussies in the time he was on the field.

3/10

10 Nicolas Sanchez

Two of his passes were intercepted in the opening two minutes - on of which resulted in a try for Rob Simmons. He really struggled in the first half, but was at his attacking best in the second half.

5/10

9 Martin Landajo

Gave his backline some quick service from the breakdowns and looked dangerous when he ran with the ball. It was a good all-round game from the scrumhalf.

6/10

8 Leonardo Senatore

Only carried the ball once when he was on the field and also missed a few tackles on defence.

3/10

7 Juan Martin Fernandez Lobbe

An industrious performance by the veteran. He put his body on the line on defence, but he would not have been happy with his running metres.

5/10

6 Pablo Matera

Was not as influential at the breakdowns like his Australian back row counterparts. He also struggled to get over the advantage line with ball in hand.

4/10

5 Tomas Lavanini

Was sent to the sin-bin after attempting a tackle with no arms and his team needed more aggression from him in the physical exchanges. However, he did show nice touches with his passing got over the advantage line in the second half.

6/10

4 Guido Petti

It was an ok performance by the big man in the line-outs, but he hardly carried the ball. Argentina needed more from him in such a big game.

5/10

3 Ramiro Herrera

Was awesome in the scrums where he gave James Slipper all kinds of problems. He won a couple of penalties in the set piece and did his best in open play as well.

7/10

2 Agustin Creevy (captain)

Only played 30 minutes before he was substituted. He looked a bit out of sorts when he was on the field and missed some tackles in open play.

4/10

1 Marcos Ayerza

Was solid in the scrums and putSekope Kepu under pressure. He also made some brilliant tackles for his team. A satisfactory performance by one of the best looseheads in the world.

6/10

Replacements:

16 Julian Montoya (On for A Creevy, 30 min)

His line-out throwing was ok apart from one horrendous overthrow. He also got his team over the advantage line in open play every time he carried the ball.

5/10

17 Lucas Noguera (M Ayerza, 61 min)

Did not have the same impact that Marcos Ayerza had at scrum time and got driven back on one occasion as well. However, he was good in open play and got his team over the advantage line with his three runs.

4/10

18 Juan Figallo (On for R Herrera, 61 min)

The Pumas coaching staff might have been better off leaving Herrera on the field. Like Noguera, he could not keep up the scrum dominance and was average with ball in hand.

3/10

19 Matias Alemanno (On for G Petti, 58 min)

He gave his team a bit of aggression when he came on the field and made more metres in the 22 minutes on the field than what Guido Petti managed for 58 minutes.

6/10

20 Facundo Isa (On for L Senatore, 48 min)

He is much better player than Leonardo Senatore and should have started the game for Los Pumas. He was abrasive in the tackle and bashed the Australian defence with great speed and aggression. It was a great 32 minutes for the big forward.

7/10

21 Tomas Cubelli (On for M Landajo, 56 min)

His distribution was good but did not match Landajo's speed and tactical awareness in open play.

5/10

22 Jeronimo De La Fuente (On for JM Hernández, 44 min)

Was a great addition to the Pumas backline in the second half and gave the Wallabies' defence headaches with some great runs. He did not do his reputation any harm.

6/10

23 Lucas Gonzalez Amorosino (On for J Imhoff, 17 min)

He took some time getting into the game and was non-existent on defence. Hid have a few notable runs on attack.
