Fijian centre cops two-month ban for eye-gouging

Vasiteri, along with teammate Apisalome Waqatabu went before a National Rugby Championship (NRC) judicial hearing in Sydney after being cited for two separate incidences during their team’s Round 5 match against the Canberra Vikings last Friday.

Vasiteri has been found guilty of law 10.4 (m) 'Contact with the Eye(s)’.

Judicial Officer Terry Willis found that the conduct was in the low end for this offence, which has an entry point of 12 weeks.

Vasiteri received a reduction due to certain mitigating factors such as his prior disciplinary record and has been suspended nine weeks.

He is ineligible to play until December 3, 2017.

Meanwhile, Apisalome Waqatabu was found not guilty of making contact with the eye or eye area.

Both players attended the hearing in person and were represented by Peter Friend and team manager Chris Thomson.
