Ashley-Cooper is set to return to France this week to rejoin his club Bordeaux.

The 32-year-old was only given a release from Bordeaux for part of the Rugby Championship.  Last week Ashley-Cooper said his availability for the Wallabies would be reviewed after the Test against the All Blacks in Wellington.

"For the European-based players like myself that's an ongoing conversation that I'm having with my club president back in France and Cheik here," he told rugby.com.au at the time

"So we'll review that after this weekend.

"From the start, the initial discussion was with Cheik [Wallabies coach Michael Cheika] that I was coming back for the first two Tests and then it's an ongoing conversation.

"So, it was pretty open from the start."

On Thursday, however,  Ashley-Cooper confirmed via Twitter that he would be leaving the Wallabies' squad.

"Disappointed to be leaving without a win but very grateful for the opportunity to play for my country again. Remaining always proud!!," said Ashley-Cooper in a tweet.

After losing to the All Blacks twice, the Wallabies next face the Springboks in Brisbane on September 10.
