Schmidt to unleash overseas stars against Boks?

SPOTLIGHT: The Wallabies could be significantly strengthened for their upcoming Tests against the Springboks in August.

Rassie Erasmus' side will head to Australia for their opening two matches of the Rugby Championship in Brisbane (August 10) and Perth (August 17).

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, stars Will Skelton and wing Marika Koroibete could play a role in the tournament.

After his side's 40-29 win over Georgia last weekend, Wallaby head coach Joe Schmidt said he is open to bringing in some international reinforcements for those matches against world champions.

"I think we’re open to bringing guys in," Schmidt said.

"But we’ve also been impressed with the guys that we’ve had, and while the performances have ebbed and flowed and we’re frustrated by that, when we’ve flowed we’ve actually looked pretty good, I think, with the players we have.

"So, if we can supplement that with a couple of guys who make a difference, that’s great – but at the same time it means leaving someone out who’s contributed really well so far, so it’s just finding the balance there and trying to build from there."

Skelton's last match for the Wallabies was their World Cup opener against Georgia last year.

He plays for French club La Rochelle and recently signed a contract extension with them.

Koroibete headed to Japan after the World Cup and he plays under former Wallaby coach Robbie Deans at the Wild Knights.
