All Blacks star out with gruesome eyelid injury

INJURY UPDATE: All Black prop Joe Moody has been ruled out of Saturday’s Test against England after he suffered a gruesome eyelid injury in training.

Moody split his eyelid after he accidentally came into contact with a teammate's hand during line-out practice on Tuesday.

The 30-year-old was taken to a plastic surgeon and he needed three layers of stitches to patch the wound up. He is expected to be out of the game for up to six weeks.

Moody's 2018 season has been hampered by injuries. He also suffered injuries to a thumb, finger and knee this year.

Angus Ta’avao has been called up as a replacement.

"Joe Moody has found a way to get himself injured this year in unusual fashion," All Blacks coach Steve Hansen told stuff.co.nz. "It was a line-out lift and he copped someone's hand. Anyone else and it would have probably missed."

Hansen added: "And as our doctor described it, your eyelid is your window washer. So if you have got half of it missing you can't wipe your eye and it could affect your eyesight long term."

"So we need to make sure that he is okay."
