CONFIRMED: Farrell to face the music

UPDATE: The Rugby Football Union confirmed on Monday that Owen Farrell will be facing a disciplinary hearing this week for foul play.

The England flyhalf could receive a lengthy ban for producing what appeared to be a high, shoulder-led charge on Gloucester replacement Jack Clement in Saracens' 19-16 win in a tense encounter at Kingsholm, where Farrell landed a winning drop-goal with the last kick of the game.

Referee Karl Dickson took no on-field action against Farrell, after what appeared to be a miscommunication with the television match official.

On Monday, The RFU confirmed in a statement that Farrell has been cited.

"Owen Farrell, Saracens, has been cited following the game against Gloucester Rugby on Friday 6 January for dangerous tackling, contrary to World Rugby Law 9.13," said the statement.

"Farrell's hearing will take place on Tuesday 10 January at 18.30 [GMT] and will be heard by an independent disciplinary panel chaired by Philip Evans with Becky Essex and Mitch Read."

A big ban could see Farrell miss England's Six Nations opener against Scotland next month.
