REPORT: England player 'arrested on suspicion of rape'
NEWS: England rugby player – who cannot be named for legal reasons – has reportedly been arrested on the suspicion of raping a teenager last weekend.
According to the DailyMail, the player was detained by police on Sunday following an alleged attack the day before.
It has been reported that the player partied at a nightclub in the Manchester City centre on Saturday night.
It is understood that the alleged victim, who is in her late teens, planned to get a taxi home with friends, but instead accepted a lift from the player.
He is alleged to have driven her to a property away from the city centre, where they stayed the night.
The following morning, at around 11.00 (local time), the homeowner found the girl in a confused state and phoned the local police.
DailyMail revealed that a 41-year-old woman was also held by police on suspicion of administering a substance with intent to cause a sexual offence.
Both have been released on bail while detectives continue their investigations.
“Officers were called shortly before 11 am on Sunday, January 9, to a report of a sexual assault on a female," a Greater Manchester Police spokesman said in a statement.
"A woman in her late teens was reported to have been sexually assaulted. She is currently being supported by specialist officers.
“A man was arrested on suspicion of rape and a 41-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of administering a substance with intent to cause a sexual offence.
“Both have since been released on bail as enquiries continue and a number of lines of enquiry are being followed up by detectives.”
