Jake White heads for exit door at Montpellier

Current Scotland coach Vern Cotter will take over Montpellier in the 2017-18 season, the French Top 14 club revealed.

The 54-year-old New Zealander, who previously worked in France with Clermont, will remain with the Scottish Rugby Union until June next year when his contract expires and he is replaced by Gregor Townsend.

He will succeed White at the Altrad Stadium.

White has had several short- and long-term coaching positions since his departure as Springbok coach at the end of 2007, when he won the World Cup with the Boks.

These include stints with the Brumbies and Sharks, as well as advisory positions with the Golden Lions, Tonga and Saracens.

White has been in charge at Altrad Stadium since December 2014 and won the European Challenge Cup with Montpellier earlier this year.

His Montpellier side currently sit in third place in the Top 14 after winning four of their first six games.
