Armitage commits to Toulon

England flank Steffon Armitage ended speculation about his future after signing a new three-year deal with French club Toulon.

Amid rumours that Wales captain Sam Warburton may join Toulon, Armitage hinted that he would move on once his contract ends at the end of the season.

However, the European champions on Wednesday announced Armitage’s new deal as well as the signing of Montpellier’s Georgian international Mamuka Gorgodze on a three-year contract.

Armitage last played for England in 2009 and is unlikely to add to his five Test caps after agreeing the new deal due to England’s reluctance to select French-based players.
