Bayonne return to Top 14 at first attempt
Bayonne join French second division champions Lyon in the top flight next season, as Oyonnax and Agen head the other way.
The Basques finished the season second with Aurillac third before then meeting in the Pro D2 play-off Final in Toulouse, having eliminated Colomiers and Mont De Marsan respectively in the semifinals.
Bayonne had Argentine fullback Martin Bustos Moyano to thank for their victory as he kicked all their points from seven penalties.
Aurillac scored the only try of the match through New Zealand fullback Jack McPhee, but that came a minute from time, at which point the game was already over.
It was a fairytale ending to the season for Bayonne, who began this campaign following a tumultuous summer that culminated in a failed attempt to fuse with Basque rivals Biarritz, who finished the season eighth in the Pro D2.
