Galthie gets the boot as Jake arrives

Jake White will start his tenure as the head of coaching at French club Montpellier on Tuesday. He will prepare the team for their Top 14 encounter with Toulon this coming weekend.

This follows reports in the French media that club President Mohed Altrad had sacked Fabien Galthié on Monday.

The latest development in the ongoing saga follows a 9-27 loss to Castres this past weekend - the team's eighth consecutive defeat this season, which sees them in eighth place on the standings.

It was revealed last week that the World Cup-winning former Springbok coach, White, will come in on a six-month consultancy contract and Galthié will stay on below him.

However, Monday's reports state that White will take complete charge - with fellow South African Shaun Sowerby and French international Stéphane Glas as his assistants.

Earlier this month there was a report that claimed Galthié had been stood down by Altrad, only for player power to see him reinstated.

Midi Olympique reported on Monday that Galthié met with officials on Monday,  who confirmed his departure.

Galthié, a former French captain, has been with Montpellier since 2010.

Sowerby will take control of the forwards, a position left vacant by the departure of Argentinean Mario Ledesma last month.

Glas looks to be the only member of the coach staff to have escaped the President's axe, as he is set to retain his backline coaching position.

The relationship between the club boss, Altrad, and Galthié has been strained for some time and the coach has now paid the price.

If the reports of Altrad axing Galthié are indeed accurate, he will have to fork out a very large sum of money to pay him out the remainder of a contract that was to have run till June 2017.
