VIDEO: France prop cited after controversial yellow card
DISCIPLINARY NEWS: France prop Uini Atonio has cited following his controversial yellow card during the Six Nations Round two clash against Ireland.
Atonia was sent to the bin for a high tackle on Ireland hooker Rob Herring.
The tackle forced Herring to leave for the Head Injury Assessment (HIA) from which he did not return.
However, despite the clear dangerous action Referee Wayne Barnes shied away from handing the prop a red card. The official argued that there wasn’t a ‘high degree of danger’.
Atonio will face an independent disciplinary hearing on Wednesday.
The Six Nations confirmed that the prop "was cited for an act of foul play contrary to Law 9.13.
"A player must not tackle an opponent early, late or dangerously. Dangerous tackling includes, but is not limited to, tackling or attempting to tackle an opponent above the line of the shoulders even if the tackle starts below the line of the shoulders.
"The player will attend a hearing via video conference before an independent Judicial Committee consisting of Judge Mike Mika – Chairman (New Zealand), joined by former international Leon Lloyd (England) and former international Stefan Terblanche (South Africa)."
