Stander slapped with one-match ban

Stander's has been slapped with a one-match ban for foul play, after a sickening collision with Patrick Lambie in the first Test at Newlands last week sent the Springbok flyhalf to hospital.

Stander received a red card in the 22nd minute of the Test, won 26-20 by the Irish.

The matter was heard by the judicial officer Terry Willis of Australia on Sunday (June 12) and Monday (June 13).

After hearing the evidence and submissions made by Gerrie Swart, representative of the player, the judicial officer was not satisfied on the balance of probability that the referee, Mathieu Raynal of France, was wrong when he issued the red card to the player.

As a result, the player was suspended for one match and will miss the second Test at Ellis Park in Johannesburg this coming Saturday.

He will be available for the third and final Test of the series, scheduled to take place in Port Elizabeth on June 25.
