VIDEOS: Boks provide big update on star player

SQUAD UPDATE: The Springboks received some positive news ahead of their crunch Pool B clash against Ireland next weekend.

Star lock Eben Etzebeth is making good progress with his recovery from a shoulder injury.

The 31-year-old left the field midway through the first half against Scotland last weekend and he was initially given a seven- to 10-day recovery plan.

It was then upgraded to 10 to 14 days, after a review of his scans, which put him in serious doubt for the Ireland clash.

However, on Saturday ahead of their clash against Romania on Sunday, the Bok camp revealed that Etzebeth is now just four to five days away from completing his recovery plan.

The lock has been involved in training the last couple of days and on Saturday he was involved in a solid gym session.

"Eben surprised the coaching staff, as he was going flat-out in the training sessions," assistant coach Mzwandile Stick said in the 'eve of the match' media briefing on Saturday.

"last week he did one or two full sessions with the team and today he did a gym session.

"It is a matter of managing him."

Stick suggested the shoulder injury is not a problem and they must just ensure he gets back to full fitness before next week.

"He is a few days away from being fully fit," he added.
