World Cup-winning Bok extends his stay in Japan

CONTRACT NEWS: Veteran Springbok utility back Willie le Roux has extended his stay with the Japanese club Verblitz.

Le Roux, without providing many details, took to social media to make the announcement of his contract extension.

"Kicking off the week with a new deal," Le Roux, 31, said - adding the hashtags #excited and #heretostay.

Capped 61 times by the Boks since his debut against Italy in June 2013, he moved to Verblitz from English Premiership out Wasps after South Africa's World Cup win in November 2019.

He started out his career with the Boland Cavaliers in 2010 - where he won 39 caps, including a First Division title with the Western Cape province.

In 2012 he moved to Griquas and also featured in 58 Super Rugby games for the Cheetahs, before joining the Japan-based Eagles in 2015.

Le Roux had a season with the Sharks (2016), before he moved to England - where he played for Wasps from 2017 to 2019 and then joined Verblitz.

He is likely to feature in the Springbok set-up against the British and Irish Lions touring team in July and August.

Earlier this week Bok coach Jacques Nienaber and South Africa's Director of Rugby Rassie Erasmus announced a series of 'alignment camps' - to take place later this month.
