Namibia win home qualifier

The Welwitschias of Namibia beat the Elephants of Côte d’Ivoire 54-14  at Hage Geingob Rugby Stadium in Windhoek on Saturday to move a step closer to qualifying for the World Cup in New Zealand 2011. This was a second-round match after the teams had drawn 13-all in Abidjan, an unpleasant match.

Namibia now need to beat Tunisia to get to New Zealand.

At half-time, before a small crowd, Namibia lead 16-9.

The second half was almost one-way traffic. Namibian fullback Chrysander Botha scored 29 points for his side, including two tries.

It was not always a pleasant match with a yellow card for prop Marius Visser And a red card for prop Johnny Redelinghuys of Namibia and a yellow card for No.8 Bakary Meite who had it upgraded top a red card.

One of the Namibians, André de Klerk, who came on as a replacement for the second time, is a schoolboy.
