De Villiers lands Varsity job

Former Springbok rugby coach Peter de Villiers is expected to be appointed as UWC's new Director of Rugby and will thus be involved in the 2013 Varsity Shield tournament.

De Villiers - who coached the Boks between 2008 and 2011 - will take charge of all rugby matters at the University of the Western Cape, with the official announcement expected to be made by the university on Monday afternoon.

The ex-Bok coach will be able to announce his own coaching team, and is expected to do so, but - according to the official Varsity Cup website - he will play some sort of coaching role during next year's Varsity Shield for UWC.

De Villiers will not be the first Springbok rugby coach to get his hands dirty at Varsity Rugby level.

2007 World Cup-winning coach Jake White consulted at UCT, TUT and NMMU between 2009 and 2011, and current Bok boss Heyneke Meyer played a huge role in UP-Tuks' Varsity Cup renaissance in 2011, which culminated in them lifting the trophy in 2012.
