VIDEO: Rassie reveals 'succession plan' for Bok coach

WATCH as Director of Rugby Rassie Erasmus speaks about the succession plan to find his replacement as Springbok coach.

Erasmus, who faced the media in Cape Town this week, addressed a broad range of issues and groundbreaking changes to the contracting system, said he is already mulling possible candidates for 2020.

Erasmus' has always been seen as a visionary and the blueprints he unveiled this week suggest the moniker certainly rings true.

He is not just putting in place systems to counter the mass player drain, expected after the World Cup, but on an administrative level he is also putting a master plan in place.

And the SARU DoR revealed that the process of identifying his replacement as Bok coach has already begun in his head.

"I have shared some ideas with the steering committed I report to," Erasmus told the media briefing.

"There are certainly a few names we have bounced around."

He said the key is to first sort out the succession planning of the players, get the new contracting model sorted, then the next step would be to get a proper succession plan for coaches in place.

"You can then start the planning of coaches better," Erasmus said, adding: "I have been playing around in my head with a few ideas, but it will be really stupid to mention it [names] here right now."

* The SARU DoR also touched on the World Cup in Japan later this year.

He said the conditions won't favour any specific team.

"The players who have played [club rugby] in Japan will help the team, but not a single team will be able to say: 'We are comfortable here [in Japan], we know what it is like [in Japan]'.

"It is going to be [an] interesting [tournament]. It is unfamiliar territory for all the teams."
