VIDEO: Webb Ellis Cup safe after burglary at SARU offices

NEWS: The South African Rugby Union confirmed that there was a break-in at the Plattekloof headquarters in Cape Town.

However, the Webb Ellis Cup and other valuable trophies are locked away in a safe.

A spokesman for SARU confirmed to @rugby365com that they would only know exactly what was stolen at the break-in on Monday night once the police had completed their investigation.

Staff were told on Tuesday to 'work remotely'.

According to unconfirmed reports on social media 'five signed jerseys, laptops and whisky' were stolen.

The break-in happened at the ground floor level of the offices.

According to the reports the ground floor units of the complex at Plattekloof - which also houses SARU offices - were ransacked.

However, trophies - which include four replicas of the Webb Ellis Cup - were stored in a safe on the upper levels.

Every time a country wins the World Cup, they are given a replica of the Webb Ellis Cup to keep.
