Zelt man ends his term at WPPR
NEWS: Ruben Machelm, the interim CEO of Western Province Professional Rugby for the past 18 months, has ended his association with the organisation.
Rian Oberholzer, the South African Rugby Union appointed administrator of the Western Province Rugby Football Union, confirmed that Machelm has exited the organisation.
The contract of Machelm has come to an end.
He was appointed on a short-term basis by the previous WPPR board, under contentious circumstances, in March 2021.
Machelm was seconded temporarily to assume responsibility for 'some of the tasks' that would fall within the job description of the CEO.
His stay was extended when SARU placed WPRFU under administration in October last year.
Machelm's role before his initial appointment in March last year was that of a 'personal assistant' to the now suspended WPRFU President Zelt Marais.
"We are very grateful for Ruben's willingness to assist WP Rugby during a very difficult period," Oberholzer said in a statement on Monday.
Machelm will be taking some time out away from the game to spend some time with family abroad, while considering his future career and personal objectives.
Oberholzer wished Machelm well for his future and confirmed that "no replacement will be appointed" in his place at this juncture.
