Top SA ref in hospital

Stuart Berry, one of South Africa's top referees, was involved in a head-on collision on his way to Durban Airport and was taken to hospital.

He was on his way to catch a flight to George for the first Division Currie Cup match between South Western Districts and the Valke at Outeniqua Park.

In the accident Berry suffered a broken arm (in two places) and lacerations. He was taken to Umhlanga Hospital where he will stay overnight for observation.

After a great career on the international Sevens circuit, this has been a good year for Berry's refereeing. He has established himself in Super Rugby and in the Currie Cup and has been on overseas international duty as he is clearly on the brink of becoming a Test referee.
