Gloucester prop Balmain extends his stay

NEWS: Gloucester prop Fraser Balmain has extended his contract at Kingsholm Stadium.

The 31-year-old Balmain joined Gloucester Rugby ahead of the 2017-18 season from this weekend’s opponents Leicester Tigers and came to the club with plenty of Premiership experience under his belt.

Since then, Balmain has gone on to make over 100 appearances for the club.

His experience and power in the front row proved to be a welcome addition to the club, quickly becoming a mainstay in the Cherry & White side. Balmain continued his fine form into the 2018-19 season, notching up an impressive 27 appearances over the course of the season, earning the Forward of the Season award.

Fraser is currently recuperating from a knee-injury, but his new contract means he’ll be running back out at Kingsholm before too long.

Gloucester Rugby Head Coach, George Skivington is pleased to retain Fraser’s services.

"Fraser has played a large part of his career at Kingsholm now and remains an important part of our squad.

"He’s proved time and time again why he’s one of the top tightheads in the league, consistently putting in solid performances week in, week out.

"This season has obviously been disappointing for Fraser and for us too in terms of his injury, but he’s working hard off the field in his recovery and we’re looking forward to having him back with the squad."
