Cheetahs fullback confirms move to Stormers

TRANSFER NEWS: Cheetahs fullback Clayton Blommetjies has some big shoes to fill in Cape Town.

The 31-year-old has confirmed that he has signed a two-year deal with the Stormers.

It has been previously reported that Warrick Gelant will be leaving the Cape Town franchise for French club Racing 92 and Blommetjies is set to fill the void left at fullback.

According to TimesLive, Blommetjies said he is looking for a fresh start in his career.

"I have been with the Cheetahs for eight years and I have won two Currie Cups with them. I think it’s now time to move on,” Blommetjies said.

"It has nothing to do with international [rugby].

"People must not look into that.

"For me, it’s a new beginning and something different. I’m looking forward to it.”

Gelant has been in fine form for the Stormers, but Blommetjies says he won't try and copy Gelant's style of play.

"For me, it's not to be like Warrick. He's his own guy and I'm my own guy. We're two totally different players," he said.

"Warrick sometimes likes to kick the ball where I would prefer to run the ball, so we're different players.

"If you're a fullback, you'd really want to play behind the Stormers pack with those Springboks there.

"You can have fun on the field and it's tries for days."
