Leicester's South African pair cop bans after red card fiasco

DISCIPLINARY UPDATE: The Premiership independent disciplinary panel has revealed the verdict on three hearings after the red card mayhem during Leicester Tigers and Wasps match last weekend.

Jasper Wiese and Hanro Liebenberg of Leicester Tigers and Kieran Brookes of Wasps all appeared before an online independent disciplinary panel on Wednesday.

All three players were shown a red card by referee Craig Maxwell-Keys in the match between Leicester Tigers and Wasps on Saturday, February 20.

Wiese recieves his marching orders in the 27th minute for dangerous play in a ruck or maul, contrary to World Rugby Law 9.20a or in the alternative Law 9.20b.

His teammate, Liebenberg received his red card in the 79th minute for tackling the jumper (Josh Bassett of Wasps) in the air, contrary to World Rugby Law 9.17

While Wasps, Brookes was forced to leave in the 42nd minute for a dangerous tackle on Leicester Tigers' Tomas Lavanini contrary to World Rugby Law 9.13.

All three players accepted the charges and were given suspensions by the independent disciplinary panel comprising Sir James Dingemans (chair), with Becky Essex and Rob Vickerman.

Wiese was handed a four-week suspension, Brookes three weeks and Liebenberg cop two weeks.
