Stonehouse also heads to Japan

Jimmy Stonehouse, coach of the Nelspruit-based Pumas, resigned from his position to join Japanese club Toshiba Brave Lupus.

This was confirmed by the Mpumalanga Rugby Union in a statement.

"I have no doubt in my mind that this year will be a great year for the Pumas," Stonehouse said in the statement.

"Most of the hard work has been done, and the coaching staff and players know what's expected of them.

"This opportunity has taken my professional career to the next level and I look forward to it."

Stonehouse had been instrumental in the team being promoted to the Currie Cup Premier Division in 2010 and again in 2014.

The Pumas' promotion and unbeaten run in the 2013 First Division competition earned Stonehouse the SA Rugby Union's Coach of the Year award.

The MRU's Managing Director Pieter Burger said the union hoped to build on the legacy Stonehouse would be leaving behind.

After a brief meeting with the players earlier on Wednesday, Burger ensured everyone that no quick decision would be made as far it goes to appointing a new coach.

"There will be an appointment made, but like with all corporate companies this decision will only be made through the right processes," Burger said.

"We will definitely not make any rush decisions, and should one be made, it will benefit all parties."
