Forgotten Stormers XV

SPOTLIGHT: No rugby and boredom is a dangerous combo. @rugby365com freelancer Angus Opperman ended up making a forgotten Stormers XV.

These are guys that played for the Stormers or Western Province, made an impact and although some will remember them, they have come and gone in the blue and white jersey.

Feel free to post your XV.

15 Jaco Taute

Troubled by a knee injury when moving from the Lions but scored an important try in the 2014 Currie Cup final.

14 Devon Williams

Now plying his trade at the Pumas, the former promising junior WP star played two games for the Stormers against the Cheetahs and Lions respectively and scored one try in his debut game in Bloemfontein

13 Sailosi Tagicagibau

Arrived in the 2014 season after numerous injuries to the Stormers camp, started out on the wing but ended up at outside centre.

12 Shaun Treeby.

Another import who failed to make any real impact in 2017 after a centre crisis. The former Highlanders star never really found his feet in Cape Town

11 Bjorn Basson

I was surprised to see him sit with the non-playing members at a pre-season friendly to find out he signed for the 2017 season. The former Bull try-scoring machine didn't really set the world on fire in the Blue and White jersey.

10 Brandon Thompson

A promising flyhalf who stepped on the scene in 2016, but playing behind Robert du Preez and Kurt Coleman and knowing that Damian Willemse was marked as "the next big thing" he left to the north to take up a contract at Glasgow Warriors

9 Dylan Frylinck

Played one game off the bench in 2014, but never saw a cap again and is currently a star for False Bay rugby club.

8 Jebb Sinclair

A loose forward crisis in 2012 saw the Stormers call up the Canadian international and he has not disappointed. In a Currie cup away game he punched Jean Deysel and got a red card in a losing cause but a few weeks later was part of that squad who won the Final against all odds in Durban, breaking WP's 11-year title drought.

7 Don Armand

Played mostly off the bench and being a victim of being part of a crop of brilliant loose forwards, he opted to further his career in England where he got citizenship and a call up to the National side as well

6 Jurie van Vuuren

Also comfortable at lock, he made his debut against the Reds in 2014 off the bench. He played in the WP system until the 2016 domestic Challenge Cup Final before moving to the Kings. He now plays for USA side Utah Warriors where he is a hero!

5 Jan de Klerk

Another victim of being at a union where his position had a lot of other great players. He was, however, part of that 2017 team that won the Currie Cup in Durban before making the move to Japan.

4 Quinn Roux

Just four caps for him before moving to Ireland. He had massive potential but would've never made it with the likes of Eben Etzebeth and Andries Bekker ahead of him.

3 Deon Carstens

The former Sharks and Springbok prop signed with the Stormers for the 2012 season and made only five appearances. He was forced into retirement due to a back injury in 2013.

2 Dean Muir

Many are still puzzled with his signing from the Falcons, a First Division (second tier) side up in Gauteng. He was blamed for the loss to the Waratahs in 2018 after an overthrow that resulted in Ned Hannigan scoring the match-winner. He currently plays his rugby in the United States.

1 Caylib Oosthuizen

Quite a journeyman and will probably be remembered mostly by Cheetahs fans where he played the longest. He made three appearances for the Stormers in the 2017 season and although he was part of the 2018 squad. However, with the return of Steven Kitshoff, he failed to get a single cap and currently plays in Japan.
