Player ratings: Never too late

The 30-year-old came into the Welsh side after a number of injuries and he starred against the Boks by scoring two excellent tries.

Angus Opperman rates the Welsh players!

15 Leigh Halfpenny:

Solid under the high ball and kicked well at poles. Controlled the game well from the back when needed and was cool and calm under pressure.

8/10

14 Hallam Amos:

Followed Biggar’s cross kick up well to set up Williams for a try, had a solid game throughout on attack and defence.

6/10

13 Scott Williams:

Ran some good follow up lines, one which led to the first try of the match. Worked well with Parkes in midfield and outplayed his opposite number in Jesse Kriel.

7/10

12 Hadleigh Parkes:

Solid test start rewarded with two good tries after a kick by Biggar, ran very good lines in support and on attack. He was everywhere on attack, defence and justified his selection after becoming eligible for Welsh selection a day ago.

9/10

11 Steffan Evans:

Did well throughout the match doing his basics along with his back three partners, but did not see as much ball.

6/10

10 Dan Biggar:

Set up a great cross kick that led to Williams’ try as well as a good Grubber that lead to Parkes Try. Controlled the game very well especially in the first 20 minutes of the match.

8/10

9 Alex Davies:

Solid passing from the base and decent kicking game, controlled things well although he was behind a struggling pack for most of the match.

7/10

8 Taulupe Faletau:

Was his imposing self on defence and solid carries and linked well with his backs.

7/10

7 Josh Navidi:

Was good on attack and fairly okay defensively, linked well Faletau.

7/10

6 Aaron Shingler:

Was very quiet in the first half, made a good decision in the second half to go through the middle and collapse a Springbok maul legally and forced the turnover.

5/10

5 Alun Wyn Jones:

Tackled well and played well with the ball in hand as well as doing his basics and also at ruck time.

5/10

4 Cory Hill:

Did his basics well and was good with his basic ball in hand play, did not stand out much.

5/10

3 Scott Andrews:

Did well with the ball in hand, did not do well at scrum time at all, his general play was fine though.

4/10

2 Kristian Dacey:

Apart from being dominated in the scrum his lineout work and carries were solid.

5/10

1 Rob Evans:

Got dominated in the scrum and played well with the ball in hand, although he lost the ball on attack in the Springboks' 22.

4/10

Replacements:

16 Elliot Dee (on for Kristian Dacey, 60th min):

Did well with his line-out throwing although he also got dominated with his props in the front row, otherwise did not do anything wrong.

5/10

17 Wyn Jones (On for Rob Evans, 47th min):

Got dominated as well in the scrums and did not contribute much.

4/10

18 Rhodri Jones:

19 Seb Davies:

20 Dan Lydiate (On for Josh Navidi, 74th min):

Not enough time to be rated

21 Rhys Webb (On for Alex Davies, 55th min):

Was his nippy self and controlled the game well and upped the tempo a bit as well.

6/10

22 Rhys Patchell (On for Dan Biggar, 47th min):

Did well with his kicks for touch and general play but did not have such an impact as Biggar had.

6/10
