Player ratings: Toothless predator
They started brightly enough but when Juan Imhoff was denied an early try, things just seemed to head downhill for the South Americans.
Their ever reliable scrum conceded a whopping five penalties and they had no answer to the Springboks' dominance at the breakdown. However, just when they seemed to be gaining some momentum, they found themselves being stopped in their tracks by a sound defensive structure.
We rate the Argentinian players!
15 Joaquin Tuculet
Another solid performance by the fullback despite being under sever pressure on the back foot for most of the game.
6/10
14 Santiago Cordero
He showed glimpses of being an attacking threat by beating the odd defender but his defensive effort was nothing short of poor.
4/10
13 Matias Moroni
Gave a good account of himself with string carries and stood up to the attacking threat the Springboks centre pairing posed.
6/10
12 Juan Pablo Socino
Was forced to put in more of a defensive effort than what he was hoping for but he can walk away satisfied with his overall performance with the odd sniping run thrown in.
6/10
11 Juan Imhoff
Despite not grabbing any points, he always posed a threat but was nullified for the most part of the match.
7/10
10 Nicolas Sanchez
Kept his side in the game with his boot and marshaled his backline well while his defensive work rate was pleasing.
7/10
9 Martin Landajo
Did all he can to spark some life into his players but his usual high standard was overshadowed by those around him.
7/10
8 Juan Manuel Leguizamon
Had some string carries and put in a great try saving tackle on Pienaar but was too concerned about rubbing the opponents up off the ball.
7/10
7 Juan Martín Fernandez Lobbe
A tidy all-round performance characterised by big tackles, strong carries and solid work in the line-outs.
7/10
6 Tomas Lezana
Ensured he held onto all his tackles and balanced that out with some strong ball carries despite being penalised the breakdowns.
7/10
5 Tomas Lavanini
Shot himself in the foot with a needless yellow card after a fairly up and down performance.
2/10
4 Benjamín Macome
Proved no match for his opposite number but had a solid enough performance on defence.
5/10
3 Nahuel Tetaz Chaparro
Found himself on the wrong end of a dominant Springbok scrum but did well with some bruising runs.
4/10
2 Agustín Creevy (captain)
Was a shadow of himself and literally went nowhere with ball in hand while he felt the brunt of a dominant Springbok scrum.
3/10
1 Lucas Noguera
Could not handle the pressure of a dominant Springbok scrum while he slowly went nowhere with the ball.
3/10
Replacements:
16 Julian Montoya (on for Creevy, 40)
Did a lot more than his captain and will be fairly satisfied with his defensive performance.
5/10
17 Santiago Garcia Botta (on for Noguera, 73)
Not enough time to be rated.
18 Juan Pablo Orlandi (on for Tetaz Chaparro, 52)
Gave away too many penalties during his time on the field while he offered nothing on attack or defence.
1/10
19 Matías Alemanno (on for Macome, 51)
Forced into defensive mode throughout his time on the field but he managed to hang onto a few tackles.
4/10
20 Pablo Matera (on for Leguizamon, 51)
Definitely filled the big shoes of Leguizamon with two massive runs.
6/10
21 Tomas Cubelli (on for Landajo, 58)
Looked to continue the hard work of Landajo but he could only do so much with his pack of forwards being driven backwards.
5/10
22 Santiago Gonzalez Iglesias (on for Moroni, 74)
Not enough time to be rated.
23 Lucas Gonzalez Amorosino (on for Tuculet, 58)
Had a few good runs and managed to beat a defender but did not see enough of the ball to spark some life into the Argentine attack.
6/10
