U13 Craven Week Day 3

It was a beautiful day.

Two unbeaten teams, Blue Bulls and Western Province, met in the final match of the day and Western Province won 11-10. There was just that difference between the two teams

Each team scored a try - Aidin Januarie for WP, Kevin Locke for the Blue Bulls. The difference was between the value of a penalty against the value of a conversion. Reece Montsumi kicked two penalties for Western Province, Riaan Gerber a penalty and a conversion for the Blue Bulls.

The second last match between KwaZulu Natal and the Valke also produced a one-point victory. But in this match KwaZulu Natal scored three tries to two. Amahle Mbatha, Emile Manuel and Nicholas Hatton scored for the winners. For the Valke Diego Cupido and Ruan van Aarde scored tries and Nathan Steyn kicked two conversions.

Then there was not much to choose between the Golden Lions and Boland. All the scoring was by way of tries. Kurt de Swardt scored all three of the Golden Lions' tries while Boland's two were scored by Coetzee le Roux and Louie Drake.

Just before that South Western Districts beat Limpopo by three tries to two and some kicking. Jacobus Muller, Javian Murphy and Lahluma Dyantyi scored tries for Boland, Jan du Plessis and Lungile Hlengane for Limpopo. Dewanley van Rensburg kicked two conversions for the winners, Kruger van Reenen a penalty for Limpopo.

But the high-scoring thriller was between Mpumalanga's Pumas and Griquas. They scored 71 points in all, six tries to the Pumas, five to Griquas. At half-time Griquas led 18-12. Pumas' tries were scored by Barend Bezuidenhout, Christo Nel, Hanru Jansen, Paul Steyn, Pieter Voges and Thabiso Matheba Christo Nel added three conversions. For Griquas Carlo Louw scored a try, two conversions and two penalties. Their other try-scorers were Daylon Beukes, Fouché Naudé, Jeandré Rust and Leonard de Lange.

At the other end of the scoring scale Border Country Districts beat Namibia just 5-3, A try to a penalty. Melityala Mihlali scored for the winners inn the second half while André Siepker kicked a penalty for Namibia in the first half.

Free State and Leopards each scored three tries but the difference was the kicking of Pieter Smith who kicked two conversions and two penalties. Border scored five tries to Zimbabwe's one and Griffons nine tries to Eastern Province's three.

There are only two  unbeaten teams left - Western Province and KwaZulu Natal.
