All square in Paarl derby

Klein Nederburg started the match with a lot of conviction but could not convert that into points, despite the best efforts of the forwards and backs, who dominated the opening exchanges.

They had a chance to grab the lead with a kickable penalty, however were unable to do so in blustery conditions. New Orleans took advantage of this though as they made their opponents pay for some ill-discipline and took a 3-0 lead thanks to a converted penalty.

New Orleans pounced once again when they took a quick line-out and caught Klein Nederburg off guard to grab the first try of the match. It was duly converted and saw them take a 10-0 lead. Their heavier pack were dominant at the line-outs and scrums and saw them head into the break with a 10 point lead.

It was much the same at the start of the second half but Klein Nederburg finally got onto the scoreboard when Rick Jordaan slotted a penalty.

Klein Nederburg began growing in confidence and kept themselves in the game with some ferocious defending as they looked to get themselves back into the game.

They thought their hard work paid off when they grabbed a try but the referee spotted an earlier infringement which disallowed the score. They would not be denied a few minutes later though as they launched a barrage of attacks which resulted in Emilio Jacobs grabbing the crucial score.

Jordaan slotted the conversion from close to the touchline to bring the scores level. Jordaan and Shadley Dazel attempted to grab the victory with drop goals but both attempts were charged down.

New Orleans also had a late opportunity to clinch the game when they were awarded a penalty in the final minutes of the match. However, the attempt fell agonizingly short and the teams had to settle for the draw.
