Big One on the Border

It started 123 years ago and continues this year with the FNB Classic Clash in Queenstown on Saturday when Dale College come up to Queen's College. It is as pure and enthusiastic a schools' encounter as you will meet anywhere.

Both of these great schools are excellent examples of transformation in South Africa. They both have big African black playing numbers in their side and they do it without any outside pressure, solely on merit. They deserve more praise and reward than they are getting.

When the teams met earlier this year it was down in King William's Town on Dale's emotional reunion day. That day Dale won 13-12.

Season so Far

Queen's have played 17 matches, winning 10 and losing seven. They have played against six teams that are or have been on the FNB Top 20, beaten one and lost to five. Their best win was against Grey PE.

Dale have played 20 matches, winning 15 and losing five. They played five matches against Top 20 sides, losing all five of them.

Dale were for a while ranked on the Top 20 and are now in the group just under it. In other words they are one of South Africa's top sides, as indeed are Queen's.
