Captain's profile: Albert Liebenberg
Having represented Boland Sevens in 2015, the flank will be taking part in his second Classic Clash for Drostdy’s first XV.
"It was a great experience representing Boland Sevens, I learned new skills and my view of the game changed. I only realize how skilled and fit one needs to be at that tournament, to play the game at that level.
“It was great to play a faster game that I have never known about before," Liebenberg said.
The 17-year-old is really enticed with the high-tempo of Sevens, but the 15-man game takes preference and Drostdy is the center of it all.
"Each time that I represent Drostdy is a highlight. The three games that stood out are [Paarl] Boys' High and Waterkloof in 2015 and the 2016 Oudtshoorn K2 Festival against Helpmekaar," he added.
Liebenberg’s strength as a player is what makes this young man a great captain.
"I try to lead by example, I play hard and I always give my everything. If the highest aim of a captain was to preserve his ship, he would keep it in port forever," he commented.
This season has not been Drostdy’s best, nonetheless the team from Worcester proved themselves at the Oudtshoorn K2 Festival beating the likes of Jim Fouché, and the in-form Helpmekaar.
Those victories have allowed Drostdy to go into this FNB Classic Clash with a new set of confidence.
"The season has been tough, we have a lot of new players, we made mistakes but last week [in Oudtshoorn] we showed we are a team to be reckoned with.
"This Saturday we wish to take that confidence to the encounter. Our team consist of experience and young players. We have a great starting line-up, and the guys on the bench can easily replace any player on the field.
“I am confident with all 23 players that were selected, we are a great team," he added.
The Worcester schools have a long-standing history. In the previous encounter - which Liebenberg was a part of - Drostdy suffered a narrow 18-20 defeat, but the hosts are hoping to change the outcome this time around.
"We lost last year but history is something that can be changed and that will happen on Saturday. We have not played against each other since last year.
"Knowing Worcester Gim, I expect a hard-hitting game which will not be easy. It will be a tight game, but the team who makes the least mistakes will pull it through,” he said.
