Captain's Profile: Alfred Louw

In 2015 Landboudal cruised to an emphatic 43-3 win, but failed to secure back-to-back victories and had to settle for 12-16 defeat at the hands of Augsburg.

Thus, heading to the 2017 edition, Landboudal captain Alfred Louw does not underestimate his rivals.

"Augsburg are a very good team, it is going to be a very tough match, it’s never a good idea to underestimate them. They always come hard at us.

"Last year's defeat [to Augsburg] just proved how difficult it is to beat them," Louw said.

In terms of players selected for the Classic Clash, the skipper admits that they will be fielding a relatively young side, who has really been struggling throughout the 2017 season.

"Our season thus far have been average. We lost a few games and the guys’ confidence took a few knocks. Our team is young and inexperienced so it makes our fixtures a little tough this year. However, I have faith in my side and believe we can deliver the results.

"The boys just need to take pride in the jersey and play hard and to give 100 percent come Saturday," Louw added.

The skipper has been playing for the first XV since grade 11, and in 2017 received the honour of leading the side.

"To be named captain was a huge honour, and one of the highlights of my rugby career.

"As a captain, I want to set an example by working hard and encouraging my teammates," he added.

Louw's future plan is to continue playing rugby and hopefully get an opportunity to play in the Varsity Cup.
