Captain's profile: Duke Jantjies

Boasting with a record 66-6 win in the 2015 Classic Clash, Jantjies warns his side will not underestimate their old foes as he expects a very physical encounter.

"In 2015 we won by the highest margin and it does sway the advantage our side. But I know Goudveld will want to avenge the past and, thus, I am preparing myself for a physical match. Goudveld tend to play with a heavy forward pack and this match will be no different.

"We only have four players with Derby experience on Saturday, but I am hopeful that we can emulate 2015's result. The boys have really proven themselves and it is all about keeping that momentum we have been playing with throughout the season," Jantjies said.

The 18-year-old is a tremendous rugby player, already accumulating great accolades in his short rugby career.

He has represented the Griffons for three consecutive years. In 2014 he was part of the Grant Khomo Under-16 side and was part of the Craven Week U18 side in 2015 and 2016. He was also selected into the Griffons' Currie Cup U19 team.

"Representing the Griffons is an amazing experience. You are literally competing against the best in the country and it has equipped me with relevant tools to lead the first XV. The highlight of my rugby career would definitely be our [Griffons] historical victory against the Free State in 2015 during the Craven Week. We won the match 41-27," Jantjies stated.

The captain has a real calm demeanour when faced with difficulties and aligns his personal goals with that of his team.

"It is a privilege to be the leader of the first XV. As a captain, I try to lead by example and draw inspiration from our team philosophy 'OHANA'," he added.

Being a natural born leader, the matriculant's future plans are to study teaching and further his rugby career for as long as possible.
