Captain's profile: Nicolaas Greyling

Nicolaas Greyling, who was part year's Classic Clash has received the honour of captaining the first XV in the 2016 edition of the rivalry.

"Having to lead the school's first XV is a huge honour and responsibility. Despite my two years' experienced in the first XV jersey, I still get goose bumps every time I pull the black-yellow-and-red stripes over my head.

"I hugely rely on my team. Captaincy is all about one team with one dream," Greyling stated.

At just 17-years-old, Greyling is already fully aware of his strength as a player and the different dynamics of his first XV.

"My strength as a player has made the role of captaincy more comfortable for me. I have a sense of calmness in pressure situations and have a knack of managing to always steer the team in the right direction," he added.

History does not favour the side of Volkskool Potch in this Volkies-Gimmies derby, with more than three consecutive defeats at the hands of Potch Gim. The captain has expressed some concerns about the physicality of the Potch Gim side he will face this coming Saturday.

"Potchefstroom Gimnasium have won the last three Classic Clashes, thus I expect nothing but a hard, physical match from the hosts as they will surely look to continue their dominance in the fixture," he said.

Despite them being the underdogs in the clash, Volkskool Potch can draw some strength from their season, which has been great season thus far. One such positive result which adds to the season they have been having is their recent victory over Potch Gim in the Puk Series Final.

However, the captain has warned his squad to not get too carried away with the hype that surrounds everything around the Classic Clashes.

"We are having a great season and we just want to continue building on the magic season. On Saturday, we have a full strength squad available to play but we just have to see it and play it as a normal game and give our best," he added.
