Captain's profile: Ruben le Roux
Le Roux is no stranger to big matches as his talent has seen him being included in Eastern Province's Under-18 Craven Week team in 2015 and 2016 respectively, to go with his inclusion in the 2014 U16 Grant Khomo Week.
"It [playing representative rugby] was a step up from the regular school level and it helped me to become a more confident player. Being chosen for the 2016 Craven Week team stands out as the highlight of my career thus far," le Roux said.
The 18-year-old lock has enjoyed two fruitful years in the first XV and believes in creating synergy within the team environment where everyone works together to achieve a common goal without viewing anyone as 'superstars'.
"It's a great honour to be named captain but with the honour comes a lot of responsibility. I want my effort and style of play to be an example to the rest of the team," he added.
The matriculant knows they will need to be clinical on matchday if they are to achieve victory and end their season on a high note.
"Despite being a very talented team, we haven't achieved all our goals this year. So we are expecting to put in a good performance because we are a strong team. We are missing one experienced player but that is not an excuse.
"We have shown in the past that we can beat them, so we will need to be clinical in what we do. However, the matrics are playing their final schoolboy match, so they will need to give it everything they have.
"It's the last time we will be playing together as a team, so we need to make it a good one to remember," he stated.
Le Roux has received an offer to join the Eastern Province Kings Academy but has yet to sign a deal with the Union.
