Captain's profile: Samson Nyofane

Dr Malan will certainly be up against it as they are the clear underdogs in a match which has traditionally gone the way of Driehoek. However, with Nyofane's experience at the helm, Dr Malan will be hoping he could take the match by the scruff of the neck.

"We will be expecting a highly physical and competitive encounter because that is what they are known for. They have also beaten us for the last three years and they will want to keep that record going. However, we will not want that to continue any longer.

"We will certainly be going out onto the field and giving everything we have to salvage as much pride as we can. We know we are the underdogs but that makes us more dangerous because no-one is expecting us to win.

"We have a really strong team this year filled with very confident players. The nice part about rugby at Dr Malan is our depth. The second XV has plenty of good players as well who could easily play in the first XV, but unfortunately the coaches are only able to choose 23 players for the match.

"We had a tough start to the season but have improved with each match, simply because the team has been able to come together as a unit. We have managed to claim some victories over the past few weeks. However, we can't afford to be too confident going into this game because of the form we have.

"This is a new game and we will need to forget about past results and just focus on the task at hand," Nyofane said.

The 18-year-old flyhalf is enjoying his second year in the first XV and has represented the Falcons at age group level. That experience has allowed him to have a unique take on what makes a successful captain.

"I am really proud to be named captain and I feel that my role is to help each member of the team become a better player. I have represented the Falcons in the Under-18 Academy Week as well as in the Under-16 Week, so those experiences have helped me learn new things about the game.

"Having the captaincy is a huge responsibility as I am the face of the team. So with that responsibility, I feel that I have to motivate everyone around me even when things are not going according to plan," he added.

Nyofane has hopes of studying further and sees himself playing Varsity Cup rugby.
