Captain's profile: Teubes Brits

Landboudal captain Teubes Brits has warned his team to not have excuses for any slip-ups when they face Augsburg Landbou in their Classic Clash this weekend.

It will be the first time these two schools meet in a match and Brits' message to his team was to apply everything they learnt on the training field ahead of this big clash.

"There should be no excuse to make a mistake. Do as you are taught. We are all brothers. We are one team and will never be broken apart," he explained.

The 2m, 100kg lock has been part of Landboudal's first team for the last three years now and has notched up 35 caps for his school. Brits has also represented the Griquas Craven Week team in 2014, which he said was a big honour and an experience he will never forget.

The 18-year-old prides himself on his qualities as a captain and believes his performances on the field can be an example for some of the younger players in the squad.

"I am very proud of it (on being captain). I know the younger players are looking up to me and I will be a role model for them. My philosophy as captain is to give your very best and to play as a team and never give up.

"I'm very aggressive and I play clever rugby. I know how to encourage my teammates and I know how to talk to them when things go wrong," Brits added.

Brits, who is in Matric, has plans on playing in the Varsity Cup one day as well as playing provincial rugby for the Cheetahs. He already has some highlights in his burgeoning rugby career, which includes participating in the SA Schools Trials in 2014 and playing lock with both of his brothers in the past three years at the school.

Landboudal has not had the best of seasons so far, but Brits feels that his team are on their way to reaching their best.

"It has not been too good so far.  We are working on it, and game by game we will get better as the trust in each player will grow," Brits added.
