Die Brandwag in close call

Die Brandwag went up from Uitenhage into the mountains to Marlow Agricultural School outside Cradock and beat the Wolramme a close 22-20. The half-time score was 3-3.  

It was Brandwag’s turn to visit the farm for a fine day of schoolboy rugby at Marlow.  

In the second half Marlow scored three unanswered tries and converted one to race to a 20-3 lead in the second half.

Brandwag then fought back with three brilliant unanswered tries of their own, converting two of them.  The last one came from a scrum in Brandwag’s own twenty-two metre area.  The scrum started and then the hooter sounded the end of the game. Brandwag kept possession and played all the way to Marlow’s try line, crossing for one of the finest tries of the day. The conversion went astray and Brandwag had snatched a well earned 22-20 victory over the home side, Marlow.
