DP shock Grey

In a close contest, Daniël Pienaar of Uitenhage surprised the strong Grey High School side by beating them 18-14 on Saturday.

Grey was forced into playing a game with their forwards, driving it up and playing around the rucks, “a la Blue Bulls”.

This game suited Daniël Pienaar well, and their good pack of forwards were able to dominate the breakdown points and create turnover ball. Daniël Pienaar forwards did extremely well and put pressure on the Grey pack in all facets of the game.

Grey line-out’s were shocking, resulting in them losing many a ball. Even during scrum time they were under pressure, conceding a tighthead as well.

Daniël Pienaar were able to stop attack after attack and slow the ball down to such an extent that Grey could not get their good backline going.

On two occasions Daniël Pienaar attacked the blindside resulting in two excellent tries which were scored by Darren Wright and Marcel Plaatjies. Devon Davidson was successful with two penalties and one conversion.

Grey got a consolation try in the dying minutes of the game through Matthew Alborough. Gary Löest was successful with three penalties for Grey.

All in all, a good performance by Daniël Pienaar.
