FNB Top 20 - 22 May 2012
This week we had the hardest time trying to sort out the lower positions on the FNB Top 20. There are so many schools sides who are so close in standard, and there is always the surprise.
The surprises this week were Oakdale's victory over Paul Roos, Strand's victory over Tygerberg and the size of KES's win over Westville.
Paul Roos drop some places even though this season they have beaten Westville, Kearsney, Queen's, Monnas, Boland Landbou, Affies and Maritzburg College but now they have lost three in a row - to Tygerberg, Paarl Gim and Oakdale. Just listing their opponents tells you the class of team they have been playing.
The biggest result of the weekend was the Oakdale-Paul Roos result. We spent a long time debating 20th position. For one thing Oakdale beat No.5 by two points at home whereas Queen's lost to No.6 by three points away from home. But we decided that Oakdale deserved recognition and so they get onto the Top 20 for the first time this year. We have to take more than just a score into consideration.
