Garsfontein win again
The anticipation of the match between Garsfontein and Centurion's first teams has been building up in the last few weeks simply because Centurion is currently highly rated by all after winning the Nu-Power series and boasting 15 provincial players amongst their ranks, and Garsfontein are still unbeaten this year. Many said this would be Garsfontein's first real test and that it was!
The game started and ended at a frenzied pace with the lead changing hands several times!
Centurion's flyhalf opened their scoring with a long range drop goal, but that was the last real kicking in the game. From there on it was end-to-end running rugby, with both sides running the ball from everywhere on the field! Like a boxing match blows were traded with Garsfontein narrowly leading half time.
Garsfontein did not trail again after halftime and their pack of forwards were magnificent especially in the second half. They poached some lineouts from Centurion and started to dominate the scrums. Eventually thanks to a brilliant long-range try by Jaco Hayward, the Craven week fullback of Centurion, the score was 28-all.
After the hooter went Centurion gained possession on their own 22-metre line and decided not to kick the ball out, but rather to attack from deep again! A brilliant turnover at the ensuing rock saw Garsfontein gaining possession and hanging on to eventually score in the corner to win the game! A dramatic climax to a brilliant game of rugby!
Credit must go to both sides! It was a spectacle to watch and a real pity it wasn't aired on Supersport!
