Gimmies just too good for Gouties

The match in Welkom was stopped early as Gimnasium registered their biggest ever Classic Clash scoring margin with a 71-0 win against rivals Goudveld Hoërskool.

Meanwhile, Pacaltsdorp Secondary School ensured a rare 15-5 win over George Secondary School.

Welkom Gim  71-0 Goudveld Hoërskool

The match turned out to be a one-sided affair, Welkom showcased a masterclass performance as they ran in 11 tries which Goudveld had no answer to.

From the start of the match, Welkom Gim dominated proceedings as Goudveld could not handle the relentless onslaught from the hosts. Welkom Gim took a commanding 38-0 advantage into the half-time break.

Despite Goudveld's effort to put Welkom Gim's scrum under pressure, the hosts always seemed two steps ahead of their opposition. Welkom Gim No.8, Gift Dlamini and flank JJ Scheepers were just too much as they ensured their side won all the possession at the breakdowns.

The forwards' hard work paid off as the backline took full advantage of it. Flyhalf Byron Smith and wing Kwagga van Staden provided some entertainment in the backline, with their light feet and speed. While van Staden, centre Lubabalo Mtyeshi and fullback Andrew Kota all visited Goudveld's try line on two occasions each.

Pacaltsdorp SS 15-5 George SS

Despite George Secondary School's great Classic Clash record against Pacaltsdorp, the hosts managed to put on a gutsy performance which ensured them a 15-5 victory over their rivals.

As the match got underway, Pacaltsdorp were very nervous but started to gain momentum and put the visitors under pressure as it progressed. The score was opened by Pacaltsdorp with a converted try.

Soon after, George hit back with a try of their own thanks to Ashwill Snyman, but failed to level matters as the conversion was pushed wide. The hosts took a narrow 7-5 lead into the break.

The first half was to be the last of George's scoring as they failed to add any further points. The hosts' dominance on the match continued to escalate as they went on to add an unconverted try and a penalty in the second half, 15-5.

Both sides played to the bitter end but the hosts absorbed much of the pressure to claim the coveted Classic Clash bragging rights.
