Glenwood in Pretoria
It is always an amazing and great feeling to see the Glenwood boys "pour" into Pretoria and then all arrive supporting each other in the games at Affies. This year was no different and it was exciting to sit and watch the Glenwood Boys playing sport in the morning.
The Green Machine had a slow start and was on the back foot from the start with Affies using the muscle up front and the pace out wide to score two quick unanswered tries in the first 20 minutes.
From there it was always going to be "catch up " rugby with the home team enjoying most of the possession. At half-time Glenwood was 20-3 behind with Warren Potgieter slotting the only penalty in the first half.
The second half was a better half for Glenwood and Nkululeko Marwana scored the first try of the half after a strong run down the midfield breaking tackles. Potgieter converted and the score moved to 20-10.
Affies replied with a unconverted try to move the score up 25-3. For the last 15 minutes of the game it was all Glenwood with wave after wave of attack but not finishing off. Replacement winger Sphamandla Ngcobo launching attacks from deep in his own half. Affies added three points from a penalty bringing the final score to 28-10.
A disappointing result for Glenwood who were not able to turn opportunities into points.
This weekend the Green Machine play Maritzburg College in Pietermaritzburg and it promises to be another tough fixture!
The final rugby fixture for the Glenwood is against the ever imposing Grey College on Friday, 10 August 2012 at the home of the Green Machine.
@lantic 7’s will take place at Glenwood on 18 August 2012.
