Glenwood march to Pretoria

There is nothing shy about Glenwood. last week they played Grey Bloem and this week they are playing Affies in their Pretoria home.

There are more than just rugby players going over the Berg to Pretoria. There will be teams playing hockey, chess, tennis, table-tennis, squash and golf and running crosscountry.

The 25 rugby matches will be played over two days. Of course, all the competitions will be keen but the 1st XV match as ever will decide who the winner is.

Season so Far

Both are schools which play the Top schools of South Africa, which is a demanding thing to do.

On the FNB Top 20, Glenwood are ranked ninth. Affies were 20th till this week when they dropped off after their big defeat at the hands of Maritzburg College. That means that they are both amongst the top teams in South Africa.

Affies have played 12 matches, winning and losing six of them. All their defeats have been against top sides and they have themselves beaten Selborne, Oakdale and Jeppe who are top sides.

Glenwood have played 17 matches, winning 13 and losing four. Their defeats have been at the hands of Waterkloof, Outeniqua, Monument and Grey Bloem. That certainly is no disgrace. Probably their best victory was their 31-18 defeat of Dr EG Jansen.

Results against Common Opponents;

Grey Bloem: Affies lost 42-31; Glenwood lost 29-12

Waterkloof: Affies lost 38-21;  Glenwood lost 39-27

Maritzburg College: Affies lost 37-10; Glenwood won 27-14

Monument: Affies lost 36-14; Glenwood lost 30-9

Jeppe: Affies won 23-11; Glenwood won 22-10

There is enough there to suggest a dingdong match, especially on Affies' home ground.
