Great Win for Kearsney

Kearsney hosted Glenwood on a hot and humid afternoon for what proved to be a very exciting and closely contested match. Kearney won 13-11

Kearsney got the scoreboard ticking with a long distance penalty kick by James Tedder. He repeated this with another monster kick, to give the hosts a six point lead after 10 minutes. Kearney impressed with their resolute defence against a speedy Glenwood backline and hard-running forwards.

Keasrney were soon awarded another very convertible penalty, but captain Tristan Dixon decide to have a scrum instead. He justified his decision with a planned striker move to score Kearsney’s only try, which Tedder converted for a 13-0 lead after 20 minutes of play.

Kearsney let slip a few opportunities with poor set-phase play which the opposition exploited well. Glenwood was awarded a penalty on the stroke of half-time which Jerome Bossr converted for a 13–3 score line.

Glenwood was the first to score with a penalty in the second half. Both teams were prepared to give the ball air but, because of the humidity, the slippery ball made handling very difficult and it was often spilled in contact and many errors occurred.

Kearsney hooker Joshua van Vuuren received a technical yellow card and Glenwood attacked with determination during this period and were awarded with an unconverted try which drew them very close to a 11-13 deficit.

Kearsney defended well but sadly did not enjoy any quality set-phase possession to pose any serious threats on attack. Dixon and Tedder were the outstanding performers for Kearsney.
