Hawston's last-minute win

A last-minute try by wing Jason Griffiths gave Hawston a tense victory over neighbours Hermanus in an FNB Classic Clash on Saturday,

It was tense all right. Some people left early, not because they were bored but simply because they could no longer stand the tension.

Hermanus scored two tries to one and lost.

Hermanus led and Hawston attacked. With two minutes to go, Hermanus were penalised and Hawston tapped and ran. They went through phase after phase. Hermanus were watching star centre Roland Swarts in particular and that l;eft Griffiths unmarked and over he went for a try that put his side a point ahead at 17-16. Swarts converted, the final whistle went and the joyful people of Hawston rushed out onto the field.

It was a match which could have gone either way. Two tries gave Hermanus a 10-9 lead at half-time.

That became 16-12 till just before the end.
