HTS Potch win FNB Classic

Match Report

The first ever FNB Classic Clash between old rivals, the only two boys' schools in Potchefstroom, the Technical High School (HTS) and Potch Boys' High, ended in a one point victory for the hosts, HTS.

The final whistle blew after the missed convertion of a HTS try, scored by Piet Lourens, with HTS in the lead 13-12. The hosts had a five-point lead at the break (8-3).

The game wasn't much of a spectacle for the 3000 spectators. Both backlines resorted to aimless kicks downfield, instead of running the ball.

The few occasions when Boys' High used their backline, they were dangerous, They could, however  not cross the HTS try-line. Their 12 pointe came from four penalties by the flyhalf, Calvin van Rensburg.

HTS scored two tries, one by outside centre Charl McLaren and the winning try by peplacement Piet Lourens. McLaren took care of the kicking duties and landed only one penalty.
