Hudson secure narrow victory

The visitors travelled to East London on Saturday and were very excited to play against formiddable opponents.

The match start well for St Andrew’s College with a couple of early breaks that led to a good try by fullback, Ross Ferguson. St Andrew’s were playing into a very strong wind and found themselves pinned in their half for long periods of the first half. They defended well despite losing flyhalf Chris Benjamin shortly after the try with a broken collar bone.

St Andrew's went into the break with a slender 7-3 lead.

The second half saw St Andrew’s College not making use of the conditions.

While Hudson Park used the strong winds to their advantage. The hosts put on the phases and again St Andrew's were forced onto the defensive after conceding a string of penalties.

This resulted in a Hudson Park try and give them the lead for the first time in the match.

Soon after St Andrew’s College ran their way out of trouble through a good try by Matt More. However St Andrew’s continue to concede penalties and this came back to haunt them as Hudson slotted penalty just before full time to take the lead 16-14.

St Andrew’s College threw everything they had at the defence but in the dying minutes they could not convert their pressure into points and in the end came up short 14-16.

The final score was 16-14 if favour of the hosts.
